Frequently Asked Periodontal Questions – Wellington, FL

Your Questions Answered

Choosing a periodontist to entrust with your care is an important decision, and you shouldn’t take it lightly. That’s why we want to provide as much information as possible so that you can make a more confident decision to visit us at Delicate Periodontics & Implant Dentistry. Below you’ll find our responses to some of the questions that we are asked the most. If you have other questions that aren’t explained here, or if you would like more information, we invite you to contact our team.

Why should I see a board-certified periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who has spent two or three years after dental school in advanced training specifically in periodontal procedures and oral surgeries. Then, they must pass an examination from the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Delica is an experienced, board-certified periodontist and has the knowledge to handle these complex procedures with a gentle touch, helping patients have a better, more successful experience overall.

Do I need a different procedure before implant placement?

Perhaps. When you meet with Dr. Delica for your initial consultation, she will perform a thorough examination to determine if preliminary procedures, like a bone graft or periodontal therapy, are necessary in your specific case. Then, she will create a customized treatment plan that will meet your unique needs.

What is LANAP treatment?

LANAP stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure. Basically, it is technology that allows Dr. Delica to target and eliminate the bacteria that cause periodontal disease from below the gums’ surface—all without having to use a scalpel or sutures.

How can crown lengthening help my smile look more appealing?

For some patients, the gum tissue can cover too much of the teeth, creating a “gummy” smile. Dr. Delica can remove this excess tissue, exposing more of the crown. This provides longer-looking teeth and a more balanced, more esthetically pleasing smile.

Do you perform wisdom tooth extractions?

Absolutely! Dr. Delica can perform any kind of tooth extraction, including those for wisdom teeth. As an experienced board-certified periodontist, she is an expert in performing complex procedures like these, helping you have more peace of mind.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes, we do! We are in-network with most dental insurance plans, helping patients save on their oral healthcare.
